Pool Tournament 2006

February 26th, 2007

A pool competition ran throughout the Christmas term, and was open to all sixth formers and staff. The tournament was held to celebrate the arrival of a pool table for Sixth Form use.

In all eighty eight students and staff took up the challenge and matches were often watched by big crowds in the refectory. The biggest crowd witnessed a first round match in which Year 13 student, Henry Lee, managed to defeat the Principal, Mr. Hampson.

The eventual winner was Nick Pogson who had some tough games including a tight semi-final, where he was victorious over Business Studies teacher and Sixth Form tutor, Mr. Gray. Nick did not have such a difficult match in the final, as he eased to victory over Mr. Johnson, a gallant runner-up. Nick and Mr. Johnson each received trophies and Nick hopes the competition will become an annual event.

As winner of a pool knock-out involving 88 Sixth Formers and staff, one would expect Nick Pogson to be playing regularly to a high standard.

Yet the Year 13 student and his mates play only once a week at Cue World in Grimsby.

However, he won’t be around next year to defend his title - he should by then be studying accountancy at Loughborough University.
