Grimsby and District Cup Final

November 26th, 2007

Tollbar BEC 2-0 Matthew Humberston

After an excellent win against Lindsey School in the Semi Final (4-2), Tollbar BEC where again in a very well deserved position and were very proud to have the opportunity to represent themselves in the Grimsby and District Cup. In attendance for the final were Tollbar BEC and Matthew Humberston (Under 16’s Boys).

As the game began it was very clear to see that both teams were full of energy and determination, with both teams battling to retain possession and composure many opportunities in the first half were quick to be taken and even quicker to be discarded. Strong defensive play by Tollbar BEC (Legget, Gray, Creasey and Carlton), immediately stopped any threat from the opposition, Jamie Petronzio also efficient and effective when required. Both Moughton and Fuller made exhilarating runs with the ball, although again defensively Matthew added pressure. Each team had equal effort at goal; although as the first half drew to a close the even 0-0 score line was a true reflection of events.

As the referee blew his whistle to indicate the start of the second half, play immediately suggested that Tollbar BEC meant business. After the midway briefing Tollbar BEC began the second half in usual fashion, playing great football. Fantastic midfield play by (Wright, Sylvester, Green and Brooks) all contributed toward the vital ball that allowed Brett Sylvester to walk away with the opening goal of the night (1-0 Tollbar). As confidence had risen, so had that of the quality, and again excellent play from Tollbar BEC midfield helped in setting up a second goal which was energetically taken and finished by Shaun Moughton (2-0 Tollbar).

As both team battled hard for the remainder of the game, valued efforts were made in defence and midfield by substitutes Jack Shearer and Danny Waugh who both came on midway into the second half. At the sound of the final whistle then it was therefore Tollbar BEC who were left in celebration to be crowned winners of the Grimsby and District Cup. Congratulations and well done on winning boys, good luck in the regional matches and league!
