Let the games begin
November 13th, 2006
The year 9 & 10 girl’s football team settled back into their winning ways during their first ESFA fixture of the new season, against John Spendluffe School (Alford.)
The team consisted of: Rach Turner; Laura Ibbett; Beth Scattergood; Sophie Lake; Jade Auckland; Hannah Parker; Lisa Cromey; Kayleigh Thomson; Jess Bielby; Holly Cornford; Jade Charlton & Gemma Charlton.
After a 10 minute low energy start the girls needed something to get them fired up, this was uniquely supplied by Gemma (Bobby) Charlton in the form of the opener.
Gemma Scooped the 2nd, as the team found their feet – with awesome linking play produced by Jade (Jackie) Charlton and Kayleigh Thomson. .
A magnificent save had to be produced by the opposition keeper, as Scattergood sent a defence splitting ball towards the bottom right corner.
The quiet but consistent Hannah Parker (HP) began the build up for the 3rd goal with a solid tackle, which led to a 1-2 between the Charlton duo; Jade this time with the finishing product.
Two further goals from the in form Gemma Charlton increased confidence in the team – ultimately shown by Laura (John Terry) Ibbett in what can only be described as a solo ‘keepy-uppy’ routine down the mid-field of the pitch!
5-0, half time
With spirits high José Pharaoh altered tactics to a more attacking display, which led Cromey to throw everything but the kitchen sink at the goal. Unfortunately she hit the shrubbery more than the back of the net on this occasion, but showed fantastic potential in the process.
A beautifully controlled 2nd attempt gave Gemma Charlton the 6th, just after which Kayleigh Thomson found herself on the score sheet with a very controlled shot (in off the post!)
Cornford was brought down in the attacking third, after a great turn – but managed to keep her cool.
Gemma Charlton got her 2nd hat-trick of the fixture on 52 minutes to make it 8-0, so not be out done Jade finished the match off with a stunning first timed shot.
9-0, Well done girls
