Young Enterprise Tickton Grange
May 23rd, 2005
The entrepreneurial spirit of Tollbar BEC’s Young Enterprise group won high praise at the Humber Strategic Final held at Tickton Grange where their company, This ‘n’ That, was up against teams from Hull and Yorkshire.
And though the New Waltham students had to settle for second place, representatives from the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (ISCA) described their business plan, bookkeeping and company portfolio as “the best we have ever seen in all our years of contact with Young Enterprise.”
The team – Siobahn Drury, Joe Rigby, Andrew Hopgood, Niall Robinson, Olivia Forster, Joe Martin, Zabrina Short and Amy Portess - were also described as “epitomising the entrepreneurial spirit combined with an awareness of community and ethical responsibilities that are a standard for all to meet.”
ISCA awarded This ‘n’ That top place for Good Governance and the group also picked up the Best Teamwork and best Personnel and Management Structure awards.
The Tollbar team reached the final after winning the regional event and the weeks between were spent ensuring that all documentation, materials and presentations were of the high standard required by that level of competition.
At the Humber Strategic Final, every member of the team was questioned at length by three different sets of judges and this was followed by the team’s presentation, outlining their work to a high powered audience of business people.
“It was an excellent performance from all involved, an immense amount was learned and real business experience achieved,” said Tollbar Business teacher Vince Groak.
“This ‘n’ That’s presentation would have impressed the board of a top multi-national company and they can be proud of their performance and awards.
“Their experience will be put to good use advising next year’s team and possibly making their way in the world of business in the future.”
And if concrete proof was needed of the impression that the Tollbar team made on the judges, it came from an ISCA representatives. They asked Zabrina, who held the role of This ‘n’That Company Secretary to contact them if she was interested in a career in their area of business.
