Super Holly takes Lincs Ladies' Title
May 14th, 2007
Teenage golf star Holly Clyburn has won the Lincolnshire ladies title.
The Cleethorpes 16-year-old competed over three days to take the County Championship at the excellently-prepared Holme Hall Golf Club in Scunthorpe and during the event she set a new ladies' course record of 71.
The 36-hole qualifying competition was won by Emilee Taylor (Gainsborough GC) with a morning round of 72, one under par, to equal the course record and an afternoon round of 73 for a total gross score of 145.
In the afternoon Holly, also a member at Woodhall Spa, put her disappointing morning round of 79 behind her and went out and played some excellent golf in tricky conditions and shot a new course record of 71, two under par, to see her through to the matchplay knockout stages.
The last 16 saw in-form Holly defeat Pam Watson (Stoke Rochford) 5 & 4 for a place in the last eight against Rachael Woodcock (Blankney GC).
Holly maintained her superb form to record another fine 7 & 6 win to book herself a place in the semi-finals.
The first semi final saw Sophie Beardsall (Greetham Valley) victorious against Megan Illingworth (Stoke Rochford) by 3 & 2.
The other semi-final set up an intriguing match between reigning champion Emilee Taylor and big-hitting Holly.
A fantastic display of assured and consistent golf saw her defeat Emilee 6 & 5 to book herself a deserved place in the final.
The final in the afternoon was watched by a good crowd of officials and supporters and they saw Holly take an early lead which she never let slip and, after another fine display of controlled golf, she rounded off a great week by winning the title against Sophie 4 & 3.
