Talented Teenager Hits High Note on TV Show

June 25th, 2007
Grimsby will entertain you!

New Waltham girl Emily Pearson (15) last night got through to tomorrow's semi-final of BBC Two show Let Me Entertain You.

She impressed the crowd with her rendition of Christina Aguilera's Beautiful.

Each of the five acts in last night's show had to perform a three-minute act - but the audience could stop them early by pressing their buzzers.

Once 50 per cent of the audience press their buzzers, the act must stop.

And Emily was the only contestant to last for the full three minutes.

She will now compete tomorrow night against three other entertainers for a place in Friday's live grand final.

Emily, who has recently left Waltham's Tollbar Business and Enterprise College, said: "I was really shocked to get through to the semi-final.

"When I was up on stage I forgot all about people voting until I saw someone in the front row press their buzzer!

"All of my family came round to watch the show last night and they were all cheering me on.

"My phone kept ringing as well with all my friends saying congratulations!"

Emily had filmed the show a few months ago and knew the results - but they were a closely guarded secret.

"Everyone was trying to get it out of me before but I managed to keep it quiet, but it was so good for everyone to find out.

"It felt really weird watching myself on TV and really didn't seem real.

"I still can't believe it."

Emily was presented with a trophy for lasting the full three minutes and vouchers for designer clothes to the value of £1,000.

Proud mum Sue said: "Emily is a shopaholic and we couldn't think of a more perfect present for her!

"We are really excited that she has got through to the semi-final.

"The whole family are behind her all the way."
