Great Ideas from Young Tycoons
June 28th, 2007
Enterprising students scooped themselves a top place at a prestigious young business awards night.
The two Young Enterprise companies from Tollbar Business and Enterprise College, New Waltham - Flash, and Inzomnia - won awards at the Humber stage of the HSBC Young Enterprise Innovation Awards.
The event showcased the best talent from the region displayed by teams of students between the ages of 15 and 19.
The companies had to appoint a board of directors, raise share capital, implement a business plan and market and sell a product or service of their choice.
At the end of a year's trading, the company is liquidated and a set of accounts is prepared for shareholders, who may even be lucky enough to receive a dividend on their investment.
Young Enterprise is a national charity whose aim is "to inspire and equip young people to learn and succeed through enterprise".
Tollbar, Grimsby's Wintringham School and Matthew Humberstone School, in Cleethorpes, are all running companies as part of this year's Young Enterprise Scheme.
Stella Onyett, Young Enterprise development manager, said: "All achievers have learned so much about the skills and qualities for the world of work, and also invaluable life skills such as working as a team.
"The competition is the icing on the cake for all our young achievers, who have been running their companies alongside their already hectic lives.
"I would like to offer congratulations to them all."
