Tollbar Celebrates Its 70th Birthday

October 24th, 2007
Still going strong at 70!

Tollbar Business and Enterprise College celebrates its 70th anniversary later this month and staff are hoping to harness that nostalgic feeling by inviting former pupils to get in touch.

Vice-principal Heather Boothroyd, whose mother was among the first group of pupils to attend the school, said: "Tollbar has expanded so rapidly over the years.

"The original school building is now just the technology block. Everything else has expanded out of recognition. Most people who were here originally probably wouldn't recognise it. It has changed that much.

"We are hoping to invite anyone who was at the school in those early years to contact us because we would like them to help us celebrate.

"We would also love to hear from anyone celebrating their 70th birthday this year who has a grandchild at the school."

Past memorabilia from Tollbar such as books, photographs or uniforms are also being sought. Anyone interested in being involved can contact the school on (01472) 500505.
