Once again, Tollbar has collected an astounding number of shoeboxes full of presents to send to under privileged children overseas.
Amazingly, for the second year in succession, The College has managed to raise over 1100 boxes of gifts and toiletries which will be transported to Romania and Serbia through Samaritan’s Purse.
“We really rallied right at the end,” said Assistant Principal Mr Mitchell, who co-ordinated the collection. “We had over 300 boxes brought in on the final day and we will be taking some of the students to the depot when the lorry comes to collect them.
“They will see the boxes going in, being processed then going out again. “Last year, Tollbar collected the most boxes of any school in the country and was featured in the Samaritan’s Purse newsletter, so we’re hoping we’ve done the same again this year.” In addition to the shoe boxes, Tollbar also collected £1900 in donations which helps the administration and transport of the boxes. “When you think that each shoebox probably contains between £7 and £8 worth of goods and then take that £1900 into account as well, that means that Tollbar has donated something approaching £10,000 which is fantastic,” Mr Mitchell said. “We know we emphasise the academic successes of the college, but this is something totally different, this is our students showing that they care about others less fortunate.” The winning house was Orion with more than 250 boxes and the form that provided the most was O12, Mrs Woods’ form who brought in 50. Around 20 House groups brought in 20 or more boxes and most got into double figures. The highest number of shoeboxes was brought in by Joel Gibbs whose family helped him fill a massive 36 while Shannon Dixon contributed 14 and Dean Campbell filled 10 without any outside assistance. |
