Celebrating a Year of Achievement

January 11th, 2008

A Grimsby school was named one of the most improved in the country for a second year running.

Tollbar Business and Enterprise College, New Waltham was rated 47th following a staggering 19 per cent rise, since 2004, for the number of pupils achieving five A* to C passes, including English and Maths.

They reached a rate of 76 per cent – 30 per cent above the national average.

Principal David Hampson said: “The results are stupendous. We set targets right from the start of Year Seven and if children veered off those targets, we set up individual support programs to help them. Big schools, such as we are, have been in the Press recently for not delivering results, so we are very pleased to show that is not always the case.”

Schools minister Jim Knight said: “I want to congratulate pupils and teachers at Tollbar Business and Enterprise College for its excellent performance in this year’s GCSE results. It’s the commitment of everyone – students, parents and staff – who work together to put learning first and raise levels of achievement. We are delighted.”
