Students Bring Computing Skills to Community

January 31st, 2008
Two students have been praised for bringing computer skills to their local community.

For over a year, two Tollbar Business and Enterprise College Year 13 students have been working with members of the local community as part of a project between Tollbar Sixth Form and All Saints Church, Waltham.

A-Level students Elliott Heward and Lee Horsfall (both 18) have been sharing their computer expertise with a group of local residents in a series of popular sessions, teaching basic IT skills in applications such as Word and Excel.

Tollbar chaplain, The Rev Alan Hundleby, is a voluntary minister in the Church of England and is on the staff of All Saints.

He said: "The students have created an imaginative course and shown patience and understanding in their teaching.

"They have also suggested extra initiatives such as using the internet link in the local library.

"They are very popular with everyone and have made an extremely good impression on the community. They are a credit to the college."

Andy Clark, the director of Tollbar Sixth Form, added: "They've both really enjoyed doing it and have got a lot out of it themselves. It's certainly the sort of thing that will be very helpful for their university applications as well."
