Visit to Parkway Cinema

February 27th, 2008
Year 9 BTec students were given the opportunity to study at first hand how a business works when they visited the Parkway Cinema in Cleethorpes.

The visit allowed the 100 students to write elements of their coursework using their own observations to explain how different parts of the business are conducted.

They learned how films are shown with a visit to the projection room and spoke to Mrs Parkes, the wife of the owner, about the financial side of running a cinema.  Mr Parkes then talked to them about he set up the cinema and about his career in the industry.

Parkway also provided other staff to discuss their roles and responsibilities, focussing particularly on marketing, finance, general operations and human resources.

A question and answer session with senior managers followed after which the group was fortunate enough to watch the film “Star Dust”.

Mr & Mrs Parkes and their staff were very impressed with the students’ behaviour and the interest they showed in the business.  The students in turn now know the how Parkway works to provide the customer with a brilliant cinema-going experience.
