Tollbar Teams Take On the Best

February 27th, 2008
After an incredible unbeaten run, Tollbar BEC Year 11 football team earned a place in the final 16 schools in England. All players have not only been a credit to themselves and team mates but also to the college.

In the first games of the season the Tollbar Year 11 boys faced some tough local opposition.  An impressive 4-2 win over Lindsey School in the semi final allowed them to progress to the Grimsby and District Cup Final.

The final, which was against Matthew Humberston School, was played in familiar fashion and a great performance produced a fine 2-0 victory.

Progression into the County Cup brought the Year 11s up against very influential opposition beginning with Wolferton School (East Riding).  Travelling away from home the boys showed every bit of their skill and stamina on the pitch to come away with a 2-2 draw.

The next fixture was against David Lister School from Hull – a match the boys had to win if they were to claim their dream double title. The players not only accepted this challenge, they also shattered the opposition by scoring a fantastic 6-0 victory.

With the road to glory becoming increasingly tough, the Tollbar team went through to the English Schools Football Association national competition, the Royal Air Force U16 Schools Cup.

There they showed strength and determination and a high level of skill with excellent wins against Cambridge (5-0) and local Lincoln rivals Robert Pattinson School whom they beat  2-1
This took Tollbar through the last 16 in the county and a fixture at Wrenn School in Northampton where their run finally came to an end - but only after the game had gone into a penalty shoot out after extra time.

Congratulations to all players for becoming both District and County Cup Champions, they deserve great recognition in producing such a memorable experience!

Tollbar U13s also travelled with their U16s counterparts to take on Northampton School for Boys in the last 32 of the ESFA Cup and they too went out on a penalty shoot-out.

Congratulations to both teams on a fantastic season and to the hard work of Mr Munro and Mr Donnelly who have worked with them all season to achieve this success. They have made Tollbar BEC very proud and are a credit to the college.
