Masters Hope for Teenage Champ

May 22nd, 2008
Extract from the Cleethorpes Chronicle 22 May 2008

A 13 Year old is one step closer to his dream of getting into the British Masters Motocross Championships.

Elliot Milburn, from Tetney, won 16 out of 18 races in regional motocross meetings in his age group.

He has now moved up into the 15 to 17 years category, and proved his quality by finishing eighth overall out of three races in a recent competition in Grantham.

His dad Alan explained this was despite competing on his old KTM 85cc bike.

“He did well because he was up against older lads on 250cc bikes.  His was by far the least powerful one there.  He had to do well in the corners as they were too fast on the straight,” said Alan (46).

The owner of La Vive gym in Cleethorpes went on: “This is Elliot’s second year racing but he has been biking since he was four years old.

“He has 14 trophies all together and he’s doing incredibly well for his age.

“He needs a bigger bike to compete but, at the moment, he’s no tall enough.  He really enjoys racing and every time he goes to a new track he decides that’s his favourite.”

Elliot, a pupil at Toll Bar Business and Enterprise College, said: “I love riding.  I’m very competitive and I find it exciting and love to win.

“My dad taught me when I was younger, starting in my back garden and it’s carried on from there.

“My ambition is to compete in the British Masters but I also want to be an architect when I’m older in case it doesn’t work out.”

Elliot competes in the Trent Valley sub area of the national Amateur Motocross Association, travelling to places across the Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire region.

“His ultimate aim would be to compete in the British Masters Motocross Championships but he needs to work his way up through the ranks,” added Mr Milburn.

His next race is this Sunday, when he competes at a track near the Belmont television mast on the Caistor to Horncastle Road.

Entry is £3, with practice starting at 9.30 am and the racing an hour later.
