Phenomenal Tollbar BEC GCSE Results Smash All Previous Records
August 21st, 2008
Tollbar BEC, the comprehensive school recently described as “outstanding” by Ofsted, has once again smashed all of its previous GCSE records with 81% ( 299 students) of students today achieving five plus A*-C passes, including English and Maths.
In addition to this, 98% (360 out of 367 students) achieved at least five GCSE passes at grades ‘A*-C’. This compares to 81.5% last summer.
Principal David Hampson, who was astounded by the results, attributed the success to the hard work and commitment of the students and to the Tollbar team of staff who give 100% support to them.
“What particularly pleases me is that our students, as Ofsted has said, ‘enter Tollbar having achieved broadly average results in their primary school and they leave with exceptionally high standards.’ These astonishing results confirm this,” he said.
“As a very large comprehensive school it is pleasing to see that with a well-led and managed team of staff we are able to achieve such phenomenal results. My staff have worked exceptionally hard throughout the year to achieve these results and I know they will be very proud of the students’ success.
“We place great emphasis on developing skills that employers find worthwhile, and so, not only have we excelled in English (90% A*-C) and Maths (84% A-C), but also achieved 100% A*-C pass rate in Science and IT.
“These achievements are only possible with the continued support we provide for students in the form of mentoring, Saturday morning classes and revision classes during school holidays. We work very closely with parents to ensure that their children achieve the best they can.
“Ofsted designated us as an ‘outstanding College’ and within that they recognised the individual support we gave to students. I know I have said this before but at Tollbar every child really does matter.
“Now we are looking forward to our students, as well as local and international students, joining us to embark on the International Baccalaureate programme, which kicks off in less than a fortnight with the beginning of the new school year.”
