Inter-House Quiz
The ‘Inter -House Quiz ’ took place on 2 February this year . Each of the six House teams consisted of five students, with a representative from each of the year groups where possible.
There were eight rounds, each comprising of ten questions from the following areas:
- Picture Quiz 1
- Media Mix (television, film, news)
- Facts and Figures
- Sounds Familiar (listening pop/classical/TV themes)
- Picture Quiz 2
- Who, What, Where (Geography)
- Sporting Chance
- Hot off the Press (current affairs)
During the Facts and Figures round, t
he questions included having to name
the longest river in the world (which is, of course, the Amazon!)
and the scientist who discovered Penicillin (Alexander Fleming, in case you were wondering)
.
Being up to speed with the latest chart hits for the music round was very useful, but the Quiz Master threw in a couple of classical pieces by Holst and Mozart, just to make life a bit tougher!
The eventual winners
with 57 points out of a possible 80 were Lyra House, who
se team members all received a free night at the movies courtesy of Mr Parkes,
owner of the Parkway Cinema.
