Description of the College
Tollbar Business, Enterprise & Humanities College is an 11-19 mixed comprehensive of some 2000 students which incorporates a joint N.E. Lincolnshire Sixth Form College whose partner is Grimsby Institute of Further & Higher Education. From September 2004, its status was changed from “Community” to “Foundation”. The College lies on the border of North East Lincolnshire and Lincolnshire, being situated one mile south of Grimsby . The students traditionally come from surrounding Lincolnshire and North East Lincolnshire villages, which are mainly dormitory villages for Grimsby and the South Bank industrial estates. The vast majority of the housing in the area is privately owned. The original School was opened in 1937 for 300 pupils, all other buildings being erected in the 1970s, with the recent additions of specialist accommodation.

The curriculum organisation of the College is based on curriculum areas, each having a suite of rooms within the various teaching blocks. The curriculum areas are: English; Maths; Science; Art; Business; ICT; Citizenship; Humanities; Modern Languages; Music; PE; Special Needs and Technology.
Pastoral care in the College is organised on a “vertical” House system. Heads of House and their teams work to the Senior Pastoral Managers. Two Assistant Principals and two managers lead the Sixth Form. All teachers are House Tutors and take initial responsibility for the pastoral and academic care of the students.
A growing feature of the College is its Conference and Community provision. There is a dedicated conference and function centre with growing business and community use of these facilities.
