TBEC Curriculum Policy


 The curriculum of Tollbar Business and Enterprise College will reflect:

  1. National Curriculum Statutory Guidelines.
  2. Requirements imposed by national examination and testing frameworks in the 14 to19 age group.
  3. The objectives contained within the Business and Enterprise College Development Plan.
  4. The objectives contained within the College Mission Statement.
  5. The aims and objectives contained within the work-related teaching and learning policy(see below).

The Governors note the responsibilities and duties of the Principal in respect of the College curriculum in determining, organising and implementing an appropriate curriculum for the College, having regard to the needs, experience, interests, aptitudes and stages of development of the students and the resources available to the College.

Work-Related Teaching and Learning Policy 

Aims

  1. To provide students with an excellent all-round education developing the whole person, which will serve as a basis for a successful and fulfilled future as students, employees, employers and parents.
  2. To motivate students and improve examination results and to develop the core employment capabilities.
  3. To provide students with their statutory entitlement to preparation for adult life.

Objectives

  1. To focus on achievement as an integral part of the school.
  2. To ensure that work-related learning has a high profile throughout the curriculum.
  3. To make an audit of WRL to record what aspects of WRL are included in the curriculum and what needs to be added.
  4. To map the skills required across the curriculum.
  5. To ensure consistency of approach across the curriculum and a consistently high standard in teaching and learning.
  6. To encourage all curriculum areas to make links to the world of work and to ensure an even spread of visits to the school.
  7. To endeavour to give vocational qualifications parity of esteem with academic qualifications.
  8. To provide all KS4 students with a well planned and evaluated period of work experience.
  9. To provide all students with opportunities to work with employers through a variety of activities.
  10. How the objectives will be achieved:
  11. Core capabilities for employability integrated across the whole curriculum.
  12. Careers education and guidance for all.
  13. Work experience for all Year 10 students.
  14. Business and Enterprise ethos and key skills integrated across the whole curriculum.
  15. Business and Enterprise activities (including industry days for year groups).
  16. Business contacts supporting subject teaching in all subjects (see Business and Economics Development Plan).

 In addition

  1. Work-related learning is to be overseen by the Assistant Principal (Community
    Co-ordinator) and is to be an integral part of the CPSHE Faculty, with the support of Governors.
  2. Appropriate resources are allocated to WRL to enable it to function effectively.
  3. A teacher has overall responsibility for careers education and work experience.
  4. The programme is reviewed annually.
