‘Before They Were Famous’

‘Before They Were Famous’

…and the idea behind it.

As a business, ‘This n That’ saw that there were holes in the college’s marketing of the ‘Up the Tempo’ CD. Although jazz evenings had already been held to attract parents and teachers to purchase the CD, ‘This n That’ decided it was time to target the CD towards the students and promote ‘Up the Tempo’ and its contents to everyone within Tollbar BEC.

Following this idea we produced a marketing proposal to the head of the music department, Mrs S Boothroyd and to the Principal, Mr D J Hampson. This proposal put forward our ideas of producing a concert, which would involve the artists from the CD performing to the students of Tollbar BEC to emphasise that if the students could just hear and see the performers that the CD would sell.

Having received the full support from the Principal for our concert idea, the new business venture for ‘This n That’ commenced.

‘Before They Were Famous?’

Concert posterAs a group decision, we decided that a suitable name for the concert to promote ‘Up the Tempo’ would be ‘Before They Were Famous’. The idea came about after some of our director’s went to see the jazz evening that was held to promote the CD to parents. After seeing how fabulous these young students could perform it struck our minds that maybe one day…they could be famous! Whether this be performing in theatre or being the next Robbie Williams!, we were going to hold a concert for these performers… ‘Before They Were Famous.’

Concert posterWe wanted to attract the highest amount of students possible and to do this we needed to gain their interest and desire for the concert. To achieve maximum capacity at the concert, we devised a marketing strategy, which consisted of three different stages across a variety of posters placed around the college.

The first stage only displayed the date of the concert; ‘29th April’. (This is shown to top right.) This stage proved to be a huge success and truly grasped the attention of the students and left the majority if staff members confused, as they too had no idea what was happening on the 29th April!!!

Concert posterThe second stage of the posters ( shown above) were put up three days later and had the additional information of the name of the concert ‘Before They Were Famous.’

For the final stage of the posters (shown right), the all-important information was available for the students and teachers to read. This included the price, time and place of the event.

The marketing strategy proved to be that of a huge success, to read more about how the concert went check out ‘The Concert’ link.
