Mathematics
Mathematics is a core subject of the National Curriculum and the Business and Enterprise Bid. The Mathematics curriculum area is consequently one of the largest faculties in the College, although it remains close-knit, with clear aims and objectives in its teaching.
The curriculum area is fully staffed with 17 full-time trained Mathematics teachers, some of whom presently offer AS, A2 and Further Mathematics and the International Baccalaureate from September.
The Ofsted report April 2008 took cognizance of the fact that:
- students have very positive attitudes to college and their work
- students have high levels of achievement
- there is excellent performance in mathematics in the 6th form
- 3 out of every 4 students gain 5 or more grades at C or above including English and mathematics
- standards in English and Maths overall were above the national average.
