WELCOME TO TBEC PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Tollbar BEC Physical Education

"I firmly believe that anyone’s finest hour, their greatest fulfilment to all they hold dear is the moment when they have worked their heart out in a good cause and lay exhausted on the field of battle - Victorious"

Vince Lombardi

PHYSICAL EDUCATION

The Physical Education Faculty is staffed with a team of specialist PE teachers. The excellent resources enable a wide range of practical activities to take place. We also offer GCSE and AS/A level Sports Studies courses. The College has produced a significant number of team successes in local and national competitions (see EXTRA-CURRICULAR for details), as well as particularly high individual achievements in a variety of sports. We pride ourselves in supporting all standards of student ability through our main curriculum and the extensive extra-curricular programme. The Faculty received a very good OFSTED report (March 2004).

OFSTED 2004 -Quotations A-Level

'Physical Education - very good. Standards are well above average, because teaching is very good and students are achieving very well. Leadership and management are very good.'

Outstanding GCSE results in 2007

Tollbar students in Physical Education achieved their highest results ever in 2007. The overall pass rate was 83.3% compared to a National figure of 62.3%, 21% higher than the national figure.

Grades at the highest level were also significantly higher than the National picture with results at A* and A being almost 30% of the cohort compared to 20% nationally.

The boys achieved some excellent results with 27% of the students achieving A* - A grades compared to a national figure of 19% and the girls did even better with 32% achieving A* and A grades compared to 24% nationally.

Our overall results at A* to C were also significantly higher than the national picture. The boys achieved results 15% higher with a 76% pass rate compared to 60% nationally and the girls did even better. They achieved 88% A* to c compared to a national pass rate of 63%, almost 25% higher.

A level results 2007

100% of all students taking their A levels this year passed, this compares to a national figure of only 96%.

Our A to C grade rate was in line with the national figure. The results reflect the hard work the students put into their studies.

Key Stage 3

End of Key Stage 3 levels indicate that our students are once again performing above the expected levels for students at this stage.65% of our students achieved a Level 5 or above compared to a national figure of 61%.
