Technology

Technology Banner

The Technology Faculty is well organised and forward-looking. All courses, at KS3, KS4 and KS5 are mapped to ensure progression and all lessons are planned to a very high standard.

The staff are friendly, work together well as a team and members of staff within the faculty are encouraged to take responsibility for developing/enhancing particular units of work or indeed generating new projects. Units of work are regularly evaluated and modified accordingly. Continually, modern processes (i.e. laser cutting, thermo printing, computer aided embroidery units) and materials (i.e. neoprene, polymorph) are being introduced and being made accessible to the students.

We are firmly committed to improving all that we do. We have targets for raising educational standards, the quality of education provided and efficiency.

As an example, we use data from CAT tests to set target grades for each individual at KS3. We then use this as indicator of performance throughout the key stage. The CAT data, end of KS level and other data is used to set realistic expectations and challenging targets for each individual at GCSE level. Performance reviews, at an individual and group level, occur on a regular basis.

Examination Results

This year has been our best ever for GCSE results. Textiles had an A*-C pass rate of 80.5%, beyond this 39% were A*-A grades, of which 17% were actually A*’s. Resistant Materials had an A*-C of 81%, which was an improvement on last years course (Industrial Technology) which had 73% A*-C. For this year we also ran a Manufacturing (double award) course that had an A*-C of 65%, which was 22% above the target for the profile of students that took the course. All three courses had good residual scores, which are measured against performance by the same students within the college. Over recent years the majority of faculty courses have produced positive residuals.

GCE results were comparatively good; all but 1 student achieved their target grades. This meant we had an A-E pass rate of 100% and an A-C pass rate of 50%.
