Knowledge and Skills

At KS3 we follow the QCA guidelines when writing schemes of work. These are constantly amended, responding to new developments in Art and Design. We work to projects which offer students the opportunity for to explore and experiment with varied and diverse media in order to produce outcomes. Students also look at the history of art and the artwork/design from other cultures in order to enhance their own studies and artwork.

At KS4 we follow the GCSE (AQA) Art and Design Unendorsed. This is a popular choice. In 2008, 85% of students achieved A* - C. Assessment for GCSE is 60% Coursework, 40% Final exam.

Photography is offered. Digital Photography is taught as part of the course. Photography using the darkroom to process is offered as an after-college short course.

At KS5 we now offer all students the International Baccalaureate Diploma course. Staff have attended training courses for IB.

Four specialist teachers who possess a range of skills and knowledge offer expertise in Art and Design, Photography and Textiles.
