The Citizenship Curriculum Area has an important contribution to make to the Business and Enterprise status of the College. A number of the targets and strategies to support the Business and Enterprise status of the College have input from the Citizenship area. Work continues to progress well with the Connexions service in providing work experience opportunities as well as Careers advice and guidance. The college has achieved the ?Gold Standard? set by the LEA.
The Curriculum Area is active in providing follow up work for the Business Studies Curriculum Area following the Year 10 work experience programme. This is part of our commitment to the Work Related Learning framework and Enterprise Education of all students. Work Experience will give the students almost 2 weeks invaluable insight into the working world and a chance to put their Enterprising skills into practice. The English Curriculum Area also makes use of work experience by using this for a piece of assessed written work for the GCSE course.
The Curriculum Leader has taken part in 4 days experience in Local Government organised with the Humber EBLO and continues to work with this organisation in the delivery of Work Related Learning. The Deputy Curriculum Leader has spent time working within the local Connexions office to gain a greater insight into the role they play in helping students in the 14-19 age range.
Both at Key Stages 3 and 4 students are given the opportunity as part of the curriculum to make use of all aspects of ICT when these would benefit their learning.
Year 11 students will be studying towards the Level 1/2 Certificate in Preparation in Working Life examination. The Year 9 and 10 students will be working towards the Level 1/2 Certificate in Enterprise and Employability. Both of these qualifications are business orientated as they prepare students for life outside of education and cover many aspects of Work Related Learning and Enterprise. There are also links with the new designation of our Humanities specialism with an extended writing piece of coursework completed in year 10 for the Enterprise and Employability qualification.
