The English Curriculum Area has an important role to play in the College by ensuring that all students are equipped with the communication skills necessary to succeed in the modern business world. At both Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 we examine the ways in which language can be manipulated to sell an idea or product, and students are given extensive practice in using language to persuade. Advertising and the study of media texts and images are focused on in Key Stage 3 Schemes of Work. The use of film as a marketing and business medium, and the study of specific media texts are included in the Key Stage 4 Programme of Study and the final GCSE English examination.
English also plays a part in assisting those students involved in Young Enterprise to compile reports, display confident speaking skills and communicate effectively at all levels.
