Learning Outside the Classroom

SPANISH AND FRENCH CLUBS

Tollbar Spanish and French clubs were set up with the principal aim of offering more than just learning! It was decided that students enjoyed languages but sometimes didn't get the opportunity in class to develop their interests and that a club would allow them more independent learning time. The clubs are held once a week and are on offer for current students of Spanish and French in Years 7 and 8 - there are currently some regular members and others who come when they wish - this is absolutely fine! In these times the focus is very much on what interests the pupils so we welcome their input.

Activities that we have included are board games (both playing and creating), researching holidays to Spain, South America and France and creating Power Points about celebrities. However, without doubt, the pupils' main request is for games so we have a bank of websites for them to access and make excellent use of packages where both staff and students can create new activities. More than anything, the clubs are a good way to meet new people and learn languages whilst having fun!

COOKERY CLUB

We run an after-school cookery club in Spanish and French. Food is undoubtedly a very important cultural aspect in Spain and France. This is a very enjoyable activity for students who want to learn more about typical food in France and Spain. It contributes to language learning as well as reinforcing the importance and awareness of cultural aspects of other countries.

FRENCH TRIP

Tollbar organises a yearly trip to Château d'Ebblinghem in the North of France. This trip is an excellent opportunity for students to improve their French speaking ability and most importantly students will gain confidence in using French and they will understand the practical benefits of learning and using the language. We believe this of great benefit to students of all abilities.
