Learning Outside the Classroom

Students take part in both local and national competitions.

  • Teams from Years 7 and 8 take part in the Lindsey Oil Refinery mathematics challenge. This is a team competition against other local secondary schools. It is now in its twenty first year of operation.

  • The UKMT (United Kingdom Maths Challenge) is the biggest national challenge with 4000 schools taking part and some 580 000 students. We enter students for the Senior (years 12 and 13), Intermediate (years 9, 10, 11), and Junior (years 7 and 8) challenges. The competition is part of our Gifted and Talented programme and is a challenge for the most able students.

  • The Edgehill Maths Challenge is a competition for Year 9 students. It is a team competition and those who get through to the final have the opportunity to present their solutions to a set problem to a team of judges. They are encouraged to use a variety of visual and audio methods to do this.

  • The Maths in Motion Jaguar Cars is a competition for KS3 and KS4 teams. This is a National competition. The first heat is against other schools locally and the winners go head to head to win through for a place in the final. This takes place at the National Car Heritage museum.

Revision

  • GCSE students are offered consistent support towards their exams by way of after school revision classes, weekend revision classes and also crammer courses provided during school holidays.
