Resources and Facilities

Physical Education:

Tollbar BEC is extremely well equipped to comprehensively meet the curriculum area demands of Physical Education. The facilities we offer are the envy of other establishments and allow pupils to be taught a range of activities. Currently we have a large sports hall which holds 5 badminton courts. It also houses a full size basketball court which has allowed the college to compete at national level. Other indoor facilities include 2 multi-purpose gymnasiums which allow activities such as aerobics, table tennis, gymnastics and dance to be taught on the curriculum.

One indoor facility which has been recently enhanced is the multi-gymnasium which is enjoyed by pupils and staff alike. This facility has two rooms which house the latest health and fitness equipment allowing pupils to understand the benefits of recreational exercise. The cardio-vascular suite has in it 6 rowing machines, 4 exercise bikes and 5 cross-trainers. All machines are equipped with electronic displays allowing pupils to monitor their progress. We also offer an outstanding weights room where pupils can develop their muscular strength or develop muscle tone. In the weights room we have various weight machines which allow pupils to work on their strength but offer support during the physical movements. For older pupils we have a high selection of free weights to enhance muscular strength further by working on core stability during the movement.

Our outdoor facilities are also of a high standard and allow pupils to experience all areas of the curriculum. One such facility is the team building area which allows Outdoor and Adventurous Activities to be taught in an innovative and stimulating environment. The various obstacles and challenges within this facility allow pupils to work in groups to develop their inter-personal skills. Other outdoor facilities available are:

  • 4 full size football pitches
  • 1 full size rugby pitch
  • 3 outdoor basketball courts
  • 8 tennis courts
  • 2 small rugby pitches
  • 2 cricket squares

With plans to further improve the sporting facilities available at Tollbar BEC it is clearly exciting times which promise continued high class facilities in the future.
