IB RESULTS 2011

As we assess the results (just published) achieved by our students, let me explain the IB Diploma grading system as it compares with A level assessment. I hope this will give a clear picture of how successful our students have been.

The table below shows the number of students achieving selected points on the IB scale. The maximum number of points a student can achieve is 45 points - but this is very rare across the world.

Four of our students achieved at least 36 points which is the equivalent to more than 4 'A' levels at grade A - an outstanding achievement. 100% of our students achieved the equivalent of passes at 'A' level and will be awarded certificates for each of their subjects. In addition to this 79% of students have been awarded the full Diploma. To achieve the full diploma students must acquire a minimum of 24 points - the equivalent of 3 'A' levels (1 grade B and 2 C grades)

More than 91% of IB graduates from Tollbar Academy 6th from are now studying at University with 82% gaining their first or insurance choice, despite thousands of A- level students being unable to secure places this year.

The IB is a gold standard qualification which requires commitment and hard work. Students who take the IB study 6 subjects over 2 years (as opposed to the traditional 3 A levels) and they also study a core curriculum which includes a 4,000 word essay, a qualification in Theory of Knowledge and 150 hours creativity action and service resulting in a highly regarded qualification.

The majority of our students have stated that not only have they developed academically over the course of the IB but they have also grown significantly personally as a result of studying the IB.

We are very proud of the achievements of our students.
