Teachers Enjoy A Lesson In Learning

October 6th, 2009

IT was lesson time for teachers visiting Tollbar Business and Enterprise College when it hosted a tips night for new trainees.

Sixty-eight newly qualified teachers turned up to the event organised by North East Lincolnshire Council (NELC). There, the new teachers were told what to expect from their first year on the job.

As reported, Tollbar officially became a teacher training centre in March.

The event was opened by Roger Edwardson, deputy director of children's services at NELC, and three newly qualified teachers from Tollbar - Charlie Bunton, Leanne Scott and Steve Butts - shared their insights with the audience.

Primary school teachers were also on hand to share their experience.

Meanwhile, Tollbar Principal David Hampson stressed the importance of working together to get the best out of their training. He said their training school would be working closely with the local authority to produce the best teaching training available.

Derek Kennard, director of teaching and learning at Tollbar, said their centre will be hosting six training sessions throughout the year, with subjects including how to become an outstanding teacher and how to progress in your teaching career.

"This is a very exciting time for teaching in this region and for student teachers from this area and beyond," he said.

"Tollbar's appointment as a teacher training centre is a fantastic opportunity to put into wider practice the teaching methods and ethos which have already been employed to such great effect at Tollbar, and which have translated into outstanding results for students here year upon year."

"We are delighted to have been able to host this event on behalf of the local authority, with whom we will be working closely in the months to come to deliver a training programme that meets the differing needs of teachers in primary, secondary and special schools."
