Tollbar Business Enterprise and Humanities College has become one of a select number of colleges across the country to be part of the Get Set Network - the official education programme for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The school has received an official Get Set plaque in recognition of its commitment to the Olympic values of friendship, courage, determination, inspiration, equality, excellence and respect.
Tollbar was one of just five schools in the country to receive £5,000 of Get Set funding for a pilot scheme this summer, set up to help create a vibrant, inspirational network of schools and colleges and other learning providers.
The scheme involved Year 6 pupils from feeder primary schools, who were paying their first visit to Tollbar before joining in Year 7. Instead of their usual induction day, they were involved in an enterprise project, to design a logo and stadium for the Olympic games.
400 pupils were divided into groups and given a city for which they had to design the stadium and build a model of it.
Claire Bench, a learning consultant on the Get Set Committee, was on hand on the day to see the students' achievements.
"One of the strands of the games is enterprise," she explained. "All the schools are part of Get Set, and we are giving them funding to see how we can develop enterprise solutions and pupils’ ability."
"We've had some great results and this will really shape how we work with other schools."
Tollbar Head of Business and Enterprise, Vince Groak, and Assistant Curriculum Leader for Enterprise, Gemma Hirst, agreed that the young pupils had thrown themselves into the project and designed some clever stadiums.
"This was a very different induction day for the pupils, who were visiting us for the first time, and now that they have joined us in Year Seven they have been able to celebrate receiving the plaque with us," said Mr Groak.
"As members of Get Set we will now be able to share in some of the advantages of London 2012 with visits from top athletes to Tollbar, and also the opportunity to visit the new Olympic village on completion."
Miss Hirst added: "The young students worked very hard on the day and we are proud to have become members of the Get Set network as a result."
