An ongoing project for a few yr 13's has been a DJ course. The project enables students to learn how to DJ properly, by using the appropriate equipment and getting first hand experience from a local DJ, otherwise known as a teacher, Mr. Leeman.
The Project started late February 09 and has been ongoing once a week for an hourly session. The students recently got to participate in their first live gig on the 23rd of October at the "I-bar".
The students have now formed a DJ band and go by the name of “Electro- Collective". Samuel Smith, a member of the band, explained he "Got a sense of achievement and an urge to want to play more gigs" from this experience.
When asked whether the gig was a success I was told "…We got big thank you from the I-bar staff…' And they received comments such as "It was the best DJ set they have had in a while" The students had only been learning how to DJ for about 20 hours, and to have such a great response from their first gig is a great achievement! From what I have heard and seen it looks as if this will not be the end for "Electro- Collective" but only the beginning and of course we wish them the best of luck with future gigs!
