Educationist Relays Tips In Teachers' Master-Class

November 18th, 2009

Teachers from around the country received a master-class in challenging their students to be the best they can.

Top educationist Prof David Jesson spoke at a conference at Tollbar Business and Enterprise College's Teacher Training Centre.

He is one of the pioneers in developing the use of value-added evaluations of school performance.

The school says his data analysis has proved invaluable in improving GCSE results at the college in recent years.

Last summer's 99.7 per cent pass rate for five plus GCSEs was the best ever, with 86.2 per cent of students achieving five plus GCSEs with English and maths.

Derek Kennard, Director of Teaching and Learning at Tollbar BEC, said: "Tollbar already uses Jesson data and the afternoon provided delegates with the opportunity to see how that impacts on practice and results in English and maths, and also within whole school intervention strategies."

Representatives from Doncaster, Hull, all over Lincolnshire, North Yorkshire, Nottingham, Leicester and Northampton attended.
