Meals at a leading school are moving in-house in a bid to upgrade the service.
Until now, the school meals service, which provides hot and cold food on a daily basis for more than 2,000 children at Tollbar Business and Enterprise College, New Waltham, has been out-sourced to a national catering company.
Principal David Hampson has enlisted the support of chef Steve Legg, who runs Melanie's of Louth, a popular restaurant, which focuses on dishes created from local ingredients.
Mr Legg will act as a consultant to the 17 kitchen staff at Tollbar, who are led by manager Mandy Davidson, and assistant cooks, Sue Cribbs and Amanda Ward.
Between them the three leading cooks have more than 50 years' experience in the kitchens at Tollbar and are looking forward to the challenge of taking over the meals service at the end of February.
Mandy explained: "Most of the services at Tollbar are provided in-house, and I believe that is why this college works so well.
"We will be taking advice from Steve as he has a lot of experience in catering himself, but the kitchens will be run on a daily basis by myself and my 17 staff.
"At present 2,000 of the 2,009 students at Tollbar eat here on the premises, and we intend to provide them with healthy, home-cooked food that they will want to eat."
Mr Legg has owned and run Melanie's for two years with his wife Aileen.
