Rising standards and results at Tollbar Business and Enterprise College have been given top marks by Prime Minister Gordon Brown.
He gave principal David Hampson, OBE, 10 out of 10 and invited him to Number 10 in recognition of the college's success.
Tollbar is in the top one per cent of schools in England for the value added to pupils' progress.
The principal was among 100 head teachers honoured at Downing Street for their success in improving education standards.
Mr Hampson was greeted by Gordon Brown and his wife, Sarah, and Chancellor Alistair Darling and his wife, Maggie.
National education chiefs were also present to praise Mr Hampson.
The principal, who is responsible for the 2,100 students on the college's roll, said: "The Prime Minister thanked people for the impact they are having on children’s lives."
"It is recognition for Tollbar, not my personal achievement."
"We have had an amazing performance. We are one of the most successful schools in the country."
"Tollbar is in the top one per cent of schools in the country for value added."
"And we are looking forward, as we never stand still, and hope to bring the benefits of Tollbar to other children."
Mr Hampson was delighted with the school's ranking in the national league tables released yesterday.
The school leapt from an 81 per cent level for five A* to C grades in 2008 to 86 per cent last year.
Mr Hampson said the college's next main aim is to sponsor the academy planned to take over the Lindsey School and Community Arts College.
And further talks will take place next week to assess the sponsorship deal between the Edge Hill University and Tollbar.
The school has been endorsed by the university, which means it can provide a wide range of teacher training qualifications for new and old hands to the job.
Yesterday, the principal was in London to meet shadow education spokesmen and shadow secretary for children, schools and family Michael Gove to discuss discipline in schools.
