Minister Praises School's Results

January 21st, 2010

A Government minister has revealed only 11 comprehensives in the UK performed as well as New Waltham's Tollbar Business, Enterprise and Humanities College at Key Stage 4.

Minister for Schools and Learners Vernon Coaker has written to principal David Hampson praising the school's record.

"I am delighted to congratulate you and your school on the excellent performance at Key Stage 4 in the 2009 Achievement and Attainment Tables," said Mr Coaker.

The results for your school show you are among the top performing schools this year based on sustained improvement in the proportion of pupils achieving five plus A* to C GCSEs, including English and mathematics, and also amongst the top performing schools based on the KS2-4 Contextual Value Added measure.

"This is an excellent achievement, with only 11 other schools that have performed this well in both measures.

"The long term trend is one of sustained improvement and the continued improvement in results is testament to the dedication of teachers and the hard work of pupils," he added.

Mr Hampson said: "We are very proud to have received this letter of congratulations and to be able to show other schools what we are doing to achieve success with our students.

"An awful lot of hard work goes into the results, from everyone involved and I personally offer my thanks to all of them for taking on board our aims and expectations and wholeheartedly committing to success."
