A Grimsby student is reaping the rewards of a globally-recognised qualification after receiving a scholarship and an unconditional offer for university.
Tollbar BTEC student Hannah Hulme, 18, of Waltham, has been accepted to Aberystwyth University to study Spanish and international politics in September.
She will receive £1,000 towards her first year's fees, after passing an entrance exam on the back of her international baccalaureate studies.
The qualification allows students to study a broad range of subjects, including the arts, sciences, maths, history and geography.
Tollbar BEC currently has 132 students studying the international baccalaureate, which replaced A level studies at the college in September 2008. The first students to complete the two-year course will receive their results in July.
Hannah said: "I am overwhelmed by the offer to study at Aberystwyth, especially as it is unconditional."
"The scholarship will mean I have to worry a little less about money initially, and the unconditional offer means I do not have to wait until I get my results to find out if I have a place."
"I hope to be able to use my Spanish, perhaps as a translator after university, but I am still not totally sure what I want to do."
Tollbar vice-principal Heather Boothroyd said: "Hannah has worked very hard and studying the international baccalaureate has proved worthwhile for her."
