Honing their skills behind the keyboard, designing and making gymnastics toys, and carrying out experiments with a mini marshmallow man - it's all in a day's work for students at Tollbar Business, Enterprise and Humanities College.
We spoke to three Year 8 students to find out what they have been getting up to.
What have you been doing at school this week?
Emily Foster, 13: In ICT we have been working towards our European Computers Driving Licence. We work in modules and it's quite challenging.
Frankie Helm, 13: In science we put this marshmallow man (marshmallows on wire) inside a container and watched what happened when we pumped air into the container and then when we sucked it out.
Ethan Codd, 12: In technology I painted and cut out a bit of wood for the gymnastic toy I am making.
What is your favourite subject?
Emily: Textiles. I like doing practical work on the sewing machines.
Frankie: French. It's interesting learning the different words, and when I’m out of school I like saying sentences in French.
Ethan: Science. We have got really good teachers and we do lots of experiments.
What would you like to do when you are older?
Emily: Maybe become a psychologist or a child therapist or a lawyer. I would quite like to help children but wouldn’t like to be a teacher.
Frankie: Something in the media like editing videos and songs on the computer.
Ethan: Something to do with maths and science. Maybe engineering.
