It's A Fresh Chapter!

June 3rd, 2010

Youngsters at East Ravendale C of E Primary School saw the start of a fresh chapter when they opened their new library.

The youngsters were helped out by students from Tollbar Business and Enterprise College, who designed a hugh fairytale-themed mural stretching across the walls of the former IT suite.

The school decided to change the room so pupils have somewhere to relax and read.

Head teacher Allie Majer said: "This is much more practical - we had books all over the school in different places before. Now the pupils have a nice cosy space where they can go."

"As part of a community project, the Tollbar students had meetings with our youngsters to see what they wanted.

"Since the painting began, our youngsters were looking through the door, trying to see what it was going to look like."

"We also have new furniture for the room, including a sofa, made possible after the Rotary Club of Cleethorpes donated £100."

In one corner of the room there are some books set aside from the earliest days of the school - old school registers going back to 1856.

Anna Bradley (5) from Year One said: "I think it's really food. My favourite thing is the painting of the rainbow on the wall."

And Abigail MacLeod (9) of Year Four said "It's nice and bright, and there is lots of detail in the painting."

Laura Hill (16) is one of the Tollbar students who picked up a paint brush and created the stunning artwork.

She said: "We have a variety of fairytale characters here including Rapunzel, the Three Little Pigs and Little Red Riding Hood. They are all over the walls."
