Sport Is Key Factor In Student Development
April 9th, 2009
Talented students at Tollbar Business and Enterprise College received awards for their sporting skills during a presentation at the school.
Accolades were distributed for in and out-of-school activities including badminton, football, dance, athletics and ice hockey.
The presentation evening saw dozens of pupils from all year groups receive trophies and prizes.
Principal David Hampson said: “We like to recognise sport right across the board and feel it is just as important as other subjects.”
Martin Birtwhistle, Assistant Principal and curriculum leader in sport, added: “Sport is very important to Tollbar and goes with the school’s ethos. It's about promoting a healthy mind and a healthy body.”
Eloise Crump (12) took home the award for girls’ year eight most improved sports person.
I enjoy cheerleading and swimming and I’m really pleased to have won an award tonight,” she said.
Jessica Portas (14), from Waltham, took home the award for girls’ year nine overall sports person.
She said: “I do a lot of different sports including football and rounders. I didn't think I'd win tonight but I'm glad I did.”
