The headteacher of Tollbar Business and Enterprise College was honoured at a celebration for the country's top performing schools.
Mr Hampson attended a dinner at the Royal College of Physicians in London which was held by the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust (SSAT).
Representatives of more than 600 schools - which achieved top value-added scores for their GCSEs - were invited to the ceremony.
Value-added scores show the progress students in a school have made between their test results at 11 and at 16.
And Mr Hampson was delighted to find his students' achievements had put the college in the top 10.
Tollbar students achieved a 98 per cent pass rate for five GCSEs at grade A* to C in last summer’s exams, which equates to a value added score of 26 points, plus an 81.5 per cent pass rate for five GCSEs A* to C, including English and maths, which equates to a Jesson value added score of 28 points.
Mr Hampson said: "It was an absolute honour to be present at this dinner and to be able to celebrate the success of our students. I am so very proud of them and all of my staff who have helped them to achieve these results."
Elizabeth Reid, Chief Executive of the SSAT, said:
"Schools that add value demonstrate the difference that schools can make by giving more young people the opportunity to fulfill their potential and succeed in the 21st century. I congratulate these schools for their achievements, which are the result of hard work and commitment.
The effective use of data, such as the value added measure, and the sharing of best practice are essential tools in raising standards and in realising the aim that every young person receives a world class education."
