Youngsters got up and running with an Olympic induction day at Tollbar Business, Enterprise and Humanities College.
As well as trying out science and technology lessons, year six pupils - set to join the school in September - got involved with a project funded by the London Olympic and Paralympic Games Organising Committee.
Tollbar was one of five schools in the country to get £5,000 to pilot the scheme.
Claire Bench, a learning consultant on the committee, said: "One of the strands of the games is enterprise."
"All the schools are part of an initiative called GetSet, and we are giving them funding to see how we can develop enterprise solutions and pupils' ability."
Gathering in groups of 10, the children built mock-up Olympic stadiums, designed Olympic villages, logos and mascots.
Winners in each category won medals, and the top three won certificates.
