Inter-House Competitions 2007/2008
At Tollbar, students are expected to strive to achieve high standards. We believe that encouraging a competitive but friendly atmosphere within the College gives our students an extra incentive to do their best. This also fits in with our College’s Business and Enterprise status, as industry and commerce are very competitive fields.
One way in which competition is provided for all our students is through an extensive programme of Inter-House Competitions that take place throughout the year. For each competition, a trophy is awarded to the winning house.
Eleven academic subject areas, six different sports, Art and Music are all included in this programme, as well as trophies for Attendance, Punctuality, Merits, Charity, College Resources and General Knowledge.
For each of these competitions, points are awarded to each of the Houses for its finishing position:
- 6pts for first place
- 5pts for second
- 4pts for third
- 3pts for fourth
- 2pts for fifth
- 1pt for sixth
Over the year, these points go towards the ultimate competition, ‘The Inter-House Overall Champions Cup’. This is a very sought after trophy and is currently held by Cygnus House.
Tollbar’s 2007 Inter House Music Festival attracted produced a competition where all classes were very keenly contested. 
Once again, Tollbar collected an astonishing number of shoeboxes full of presents to send to under privileged children overseas. This year’s Inter-House Netball tournament was dominated by Cygnus and Perseus.
