Whole School Letter July 2009

Dear Parent/Carer

I would like to thank all our parents and carers for their support and commitment to the College. This year, once again, has been highly successful and we anxiously await the examination results for our Sixth Form and Year 11 students. Many new developments are currently taking place on site to further improve our excellent facilities. I will write to you at the start of the new academic year to inform you of these developments and the examination outcomes.

Student Uniform

Once again we would like to thank all parents for their assistance in ensuring that our students are extremely well presented in their uniform. We often have positive comments from the business and local community regarding the high standards of our students' dress. This stands them in very good stead when they move on to employment or further education.

Uniform Sales

The College is now open every Tuesday from 3:15 pm to 4 pm for the purchase of College uniform during term time and during holidays. Blazers, ties and scarves can also be purchased from Uniform Direct.

Labelling of Uniform

Would parents ensure that all items of clothing and footwear are clearly labelled with your son's/daughter's name. This helps students find lost items and significantly reduces unclaimed clothing in lost property.

Upper School Uniform

Students can continue to wear Lower School uniform but, once they move into Upper School when a new blazer is required, they must purchase an Upper School blazer and tie/scarf (as stated on page 16 of the Student Planner).

Bicycles

If your son/daughter brings a bicycle into College, please ensure that it is locked when left in the bicycle compound. The police have stated that the most secure lock is a 'D' lock.

Procedure for taking medication at College

If a student has to take medication whilst at College, parents must complete a consent form and the medication should be left in the medical room. Students must then go to the medical room to receive their medication. Students must not carry medication around the College.

Student Leave of Absence

Below is a table giving the months that are timetabled for GCSE examinations. We are yet to be notified of dates by the Exams Boards so please do not apply for leave of absence during these months. Students will be preparing and taking the exams during this time.

College buses

Any student who travels to College on a bus and wishes to apply for a Statutory Bus Pass from either North East Lincs Council or Lincolnshire Council can now pick up their application form from the student office.  These forms need to be completed and sent to the relevant council who will process the passes. Do not return your application forms to the College.

Students concerned have already been informed via letter that the concessionary bus pass is not available from September 2009 and the 103 and 104 buses have been withdrawn next year. If students have any concerns they should speak to Mr Groak at the College.

Please note that the Millman's bus that comes from Beelsby, Brigsley, Ashby-cum-Fenby and Barnoldby le Beck is pass only and that students must apply for their passes for this bus as well, before the end of term. If there is any doubt that the student is entitled to a bus pass they should see Mr Groak.
