During my first year at Tollbar, I applied for the position of Learning Mentor. I was thrilled when I was offered the job and couldn't wait to start my new role. I started mentoring in April 2004, along with two other new members of staff. We were given detailed training from a senior lecturer at Liverpool University and on going training and support in College. I started off mentoring Year 9 students and then gradually progressed to mentoring Year 10 and 11 students. I found that my job was so interesting and varied, as I was still teaching and assisting in classes along with mentoring students.
In summer 2006, I applied for a position to advance further and have my own mentoring room where Year 11 students could come to revise and catch up with coursework. This job has made me into a confident, outgoing and ambitious person, which is something I never thought I could be. I am now responsible for supervising other mentors and I have completed various courses and training programmes that were offered to me on behalf of the College. I am now also studying for a BA Honours degree in English Literature.
I am still thoroughly enjoying my job and I am glad to be part of such a strong, passionate and devoted team of people. I am so grateful for all of the encouragement and support I have received over the years while I have been working here, I could not have asked for more.
