Assessment Procedures
At Key Stage 3 assessment is based on termly Quality Marks which are marked according to National Curriculum Levels and College Policy. Work is marked out of 20 and students know the National Curriculum Levels at which they are working and what they have to do to improve. Marks are recorded in student planners and on Assessment Manager.
At Key Stage 4 students’ Quality Marks are entered on Assessment Manager and in student planners to record the GCSE grade they are working at. Students are made aware of what they need to do to move onto the next grade.
At Key Stage 5 students are awarded a half-termly grade based on the examination criteria and the content of the work produced during the course. This is recorded on Assessment Manager.
Examinations are held for all students each year.
Behaviour – Rewards and Sanctions
The English Curriculum Area follows the College’s Policy on Rewards and Sanctions. As Key Stage 3 students are awarded merits for good performance and these are recorded in each student’s planner and signed by the class teacher. At Key Stage 4, positive referrals are awarded.
Each class teacher and, if appropriate, the Head of Curriculum Area, deals with any instances of misbehaviour, and inadequate work is reported to the Head of Curriculum Area who will communicate with parents if necessary. The Curriculum Area follows the Whole-College policy on sanctions.
