Aims and Objectives


As a curriculum area, our primary teaching aims are:
  • To develop an appreciation of mathematics as an essential element of communication.
  • To develop the basic numeracy skills required in every day life.
  • To show that mathematics is a powerful tool used in scientific development, modern technology and other areas of study.
  • To encourage enjoyment of mathematical activity.
  • To provide opportunities for satisfaction through success in the subject.
  • To encourage and develop both systematic and imaginative methods of problem solving.
  • To enable each individual student to develop both mathematical skills and understanding appropriate to his/her capabilities through realistic target setting and review procedures.
  • To develop confidence and personal skills such as working efficiently, both independently and co-operatively.
  • To help students to obtain formal qualifications needed for future careers.
