Take up at KS4 is higher than the national average, and includes some students who have opted to study 2 languages.
Students study the AQA course in both French, Spanish and German, and decisions on whether to do coursework instead of a final written paper are taken according to the needs of different groups. Students’ work is marked to GCSE criteria from an early stage in Year 10, and assessments are used regularly to help target-setting and to agree aims and objectives for the next term.
In KS4 the approach is once again communicative, with regular access to the Faculty’s ICT facilities, pooled resources and the Internet. In French, Metro 4, Avantage Rouge and Avantage Vert text books are used, in German Logo! 4 is used and in Spanish Listos 3 is used.
The March 2004 Ofsted report noted that ‘Students are focused on GCSE and apply themselves conscientiously, as is seen clearly in effort grades awarded. They are beginning to take responsibility for their own learning…’
