6th Form

We enter students at AS and A2 level for AQA French, German and Spanish.

In the first year of the course (AS level) three Units are studied – Young People Today, Aspects of Society (pre-release booklet) and People and Society (Oral Test). Examination of these modules is in June and it is possible to resit any or all of these units in January or June of the following year.

In the second year of the course (A2 level) a further three Units are studied – Contemporary Issues, The Cultural and Social Landscape in Focus and Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow (Oral Test). Two pieces of coursework are written between October and Easter instead of a written exam in June.

The March 2004 Ofsted report noted, ‘The course content expands students personal development well. Global issues…raise serious questions about over-population and limited resources. Comparisons of life expectancy between the Third World and western countries such as France or the UK gave cause for serous thought. By this stage students have writing skills to address these concerns. Students are greatly helped by rigorous assessment procedures that show students where they are and point the way forward to improvement.’

Students benefit greatly from weekly one-to-one sessions with a native speaker of either French or German and most lessons now take place in the 6th Form Divace Language Laboratory.
