Spanish Club
Tollbar Spanish club was set up in September with the principal aim of offering more than just learning! It was decided that pupils enjoyed languages but sometimes didn’t get the opportunity in class to develop their interests and that a club would allow them more independent learning time. The club is held every Monday lunchtime in 12B and is on offer for current students of Spanish in Years 7 and 8 – there are currently 12 regular members and others who come when they wish – this is absolutely fine! In these times the focus is very much on what interests the pupils so we welcome their input. Activities that we have included are board games (both playing and creating), researching holidays to Spain and South America and creating PowerPoints about celebrities. However, without doubt, the pupils main request is or games so we have a bank of websites for them to access and make excellent use of packages where both ourselves and the students can create new activities. More than anything, Spanish club is a good way to meet new people and learn Spanish whilst having fun!
French Club
Since September 2006, a French club has been running regularly on Monday lunch times. This has proved to be popular amongst year 7 and year 8 students. Several students have attended the majority of sessions and participated in a wide range of activities. The types of activities which have taken place have been designed to encourage a greater understanding of the language and country that they are studying. Examples of these include quizzes on France, researching famous French people, designing board games which are aimed at extending and practising French and watching short French programmes. Time was also spent looking at the more cultural aspect of the language with creating Christmas and Easter cards proving to be very popular. The clubs have taken place in the multi-functional language laboratory giving students the opportunity to enhance their use of ICT and access the wide range of interactive resources which are available.
